クマガイソウ
水月寺での見頃は、通常はイワツツジの咲く4〜5月頃でしたが、最近早まる傾向にあり、4月中旬ころがピークになりつつあります。大きな２枚の扇状の葉と袋状の花を一輪つけ、高さは20〜40cmくらいになります。源氏の武者「熊谷直実（くまがいなおざね）」の背負った母衣（ほろ）に似ているので、この和名があります。最近、乱獲や開発によってどんどんなくなりつつあります。

Kumagaiso (Cypripedlum japonicum)
The best time to see Kumagaiso in Suigetsudera Temple was used
to be April to May, however, in these years, it tends to bloom
earlier and becomes full bloom in the mid April. A flower like
a pouch has 2 big fan formed leaves, and its height is about 20-40
cm. It was named after a samurai of Genji "Naozane Kumagai",
whose Horo( a broad cloth spread on the back of armor) looked
similar to this flower. Recently, it is decreasing by overhunt
and land developement.
